The west coast premiere of Welcome to Arroyo’s opens at The Old Globe on Saturday night. This tale of Alejandro and Molly — a brother and sister who are learning to cope after their mother passes away — was a 2010 Pulitzer-Prize finalist. Local graffiti arts program Writerz Blok was commissioned to paint the backdrops and create Molly’s art. Written by Kristoffer Diaz; directed by Jaime Castañeda. Tickets are $29 – $49. (Please note there is some strong language in the program.)

The 16th annual Pacific Islander Festival Association (PIFA) event takes place this Saturday and Sunday in Mission Bay. Experience music, dance, merchants, food, and more representing cultures from throughout the islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Free admission. Parking is $10 per vehicle; free shuttles are provided from designated lots to the event site.
