A first-of-its-kind look at the history of graffiti in San Diego.
Contents Under Pressure: The Writing on the Wall is a unique exhibit featuring 30 years of urban art created by San Diego-based graffiti artists and Hip Hop photographers – from the inception of Hip Hop in San Diego, to present day – and how today’s artists are showing the world that graffiti is a legitimate and museum-worthy art form. Take a visual tour of early graffiti sites and check out a never-before-exhibited collection of historic graffiti memorabilia.
Original canvases, wearable art, and more will be available for sale. All proceeds will go to future youth art programs and art park maintenance.
In conjunction with this exhibit, Writerz Blok artists are currently creating a 40’ X 60’ mural for the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park. The public can watch the artists at work weeknights from Nov. 1-16 from 5-9 pm at the museum. The mural will be installed in conjunction with the SDMA’s fall exhibition Mexican Modern Painting from the Andrés Blaisten Collection.
