Kicking Off 2011-12 School Year Safety Campaign
The
Now an annual event, the campaign aims to raise awareness on various safety issues surrounding our children while traveling to and from school, being out past curfew, skipping school, or choosing the wrong group of friends.
This school year, our focus is on how important it is for parents to hold onto their children while crossing the street. After losing 4 children to traffic accidents in the summer of 2010 (3 accidents and 1 hit in run) our partners joined forces alongside Council President Tony Young to develop the campaign. It consists of five safety cards to share with residents, billboards featuring this year’s safety theme, and “slow down” signs to be placed around the community. The more exposure we receive, the more lives we can save.
Please join Project Safe Way, Council President Tony Young, SDPD Captain Tony McElroy and our safety partners as we come together to launch this effort.
