The sounds of hip-hop and classical music combine to create Black Violin. The duo of classically trained string instrumentalists Kev Marcus and Wil Baptiste rose to fame covering hip-hop songs on their violins. After winning “Showtime at the Apollo,” their unique sound became sought after by hit recording artists, including Alicia Keys, the Wu-Tang Clan, Kanye West, Tom Petty, and even President Barack Obama when the duo performed at the president’s second inauguration in 2013. Black Violin comes to the Jacobs Center to share their signature sound and hits from their new album Stereotypes. This dynamic concert experience is sure to linger in your memory and leave you desiring more.
Hear what NPR had to say about Black Violin during their interview with the duo earlier this year.
Proceeds go toward supporting performing arts and cultural events in Southeastern San Diego’s Diamond Neighborhoods.
