Interstate 805 South Project News
Thank you for your continued interest in the I-805 South Project, which will help improve traffic flow and alleviate congestion on the highway, and provide new transportation choices for travelers. The project is an integral part of a new transportation backbone in San Diego County.
We are writing to share with you the second I-805 South Project newsletter. Among other information, the newsletter includes a brief project update, information about recent public outreach efforts and a feature on the future South Bay Bus Rapid Transit system.
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) completed the environmental phase of the I-805 South Project in June 2011. Construction on the first phase of the I-805 South Project is scheduled to begin in early 2012. The project includes the addition of buffer-separated Express Lanes within the I-805 median and several improvements to the freeway and transit system, including:
- A Direct Access Ramp (DAR) at East Palomar Street;
- In-Line Transit Stations on Plaza Boulevard in National City and East H Street in Chula Vista;
- Park & Ride stations near the In-Line Transit Stations; and
- More than 60 sound-mitigating walls, 100 retaining walls and 20 bridge improvements along the 11-mile route.
Thank you again for your interest in the I-805 South Project. We look forward to keeping you informed throughout the course of the project.
