A disproportionate percentage of residents in Southeastern San Diego suffer from chronic, life-threatening diseases that can be traced to diet and nutrition, exacerbated by a severe shortage of places offering fresh, affordable produce. The Project New Village People’s Produce Urban Agriculture Initiative is a grassroots, neighborhood-based initiative which utilizes a social determinant of health model to address inequities and to promote universal access to good food as a viable avenue to better health
The October 25th Grand Re-opening of the People’s Produce Certified farmers Market will feature a special wellness hour, 2:00pm – 3:00pm featuring healthy food sampling, a fitness class, and free give-away of healthy cook books, pedometers and more At 2:30pm Supervisor Greg Cox, City Council member Myrtle Cole and other health and community leaders will address the community.
The October 25th Grand Re-opening of the People’s Produce Certified farmers Market takes place at a new location, Chollas Creek Crossing, at 47th and Castana Street. In partnership with Groundworks San Diego, Project New Village is engaging neighborhood residents to embrace healthy lifestyles, healthy food options and environmental wellness.
The market officially closed the Market Street site on October 4th. The market’s new home – Chollas Creek Crossing –is a three-acre gathering place, adjacent to Chollas Creek with student artwork, a native plant garden, and native trees and shrubs that support creek wildlife. Chollas Creek Crossing will be managed by Groundwork San Diego
Come to the grand re-opening of the People’s Produce Certified farmers Market to support local farmers and small businesses, while having a good time in a new neighborhood gathering space. This market will be a great place to spend some time on a Saturday afternoon
